“There is nothing you can do for me, owl.” There was a soft click as Cypher turned the handle, speaking with his back turned. “You have already lost an eye, once. I won’t have you lose your wings as well.”
“Cypher,” Sova tried again, desperately. “I’ll do everything I can. I promise you, I’m not going to let you die anymore. I won’t give up on you.”
“You will soon,” was all Cypher said, and the door shut in his face with a final, resolute thud.

Cypher's dying on purpose, Sova figured out that much. When Brimstone partners them together in a newly instated program called the Duo System, Sova launches an investigation - one that uncovers more secrets about them both than he had ever bargained for.

Summary
So he follows Cypher like a dog after its owner, largely unaware of the specifics of his surroundings. They bump shoulders as they walk, neither trying to maintain any distance from the other. Sova doesn’t really know how to feel about it, so he doesn’t feel anything about it at all. It’s nice. It’s certainly not what he expected to happen when he left the party however long ago. Maybe he does not mind Cypher’s company as much as he used to.
