"Luther captures one of Benji’s pawns, and then Benji takes two of his, and the sun slowly sets as Benji vaguely wonders where they’ll get dinner from this time — if Luther wants to try the new bistro he’d been mentioning lately or if he’ll let Benji choose because they ordered from Luther’s Italian place last time. Benji finds he doesn’t much care, knocks down a white knight and bishop, and shoots Luther a grin he knows he’ll pointedly avoid."
Luther and Benji play chess together. They sort of fall in love.

"Gus had not been able to sleep last night. His body kept him awake well past his bedtime, not knowing how to fall asleep in his own bed, alone, for the first time in what felt like forever. The bed was too big, the blankets too cold, the room too silent without Shawn’s breathing. And now Gus wonders if he’ll ever be able to sleep again if Shawn is never coming home."
Or, in which, Shawn leaves without saying goodbye, and Gus is left barren, broken, and alone.
