“A distraction,” Zhongli repeats, the words syrupy like honey on his lips.
Venti glances back at him, catches the way the embers this time illuminate something different in the inlaid amber. “Yeah. Have any ideas?”
or, in other words, after thousands of years, venti and zhongli try being friends with benefits. it blows up in venti's face, as things usually do. but not after many, many nights spent together and causing mild distress to everyone that knows them.

or: Ajax isn't sure how he ended up alone in Liyue Harbour, and he's even less sure why everyone keeps calling him Harbinger. His only clues seem to lay in the man he woke up next to - if he has any more memory than Ajax, that is.
