Summary
Alternate universe where Jim and Spock meet as teens at summer camp. Jim has two rules for Spock to be his best friend, and eventually, Spock breaks them both. Jim's not too upset about it.

""Second rule: don't fall in love with me, that would be awkward," Jim laughed, but Spock knew it was forced, being around Jim long enough to know. "Since I'm aro, so you know."
Spock nodded. "That won't be a problem," he replied, and Jim shoved his shoulder playfully.
"Hey, what's that supposed to mean? Ladies drop like flies back in Iowa for me!"
"Of course they do, Jim." Spock replied, the mood lightened successfully. "

AU.
After Sarek is killed during a terrorist attack against the Vulcan embassy on another Federation planet, Amanda decides to take 15-year-old Spock back to Earth. After a realization that perhaps some alone time might be good for the both of them, Spock is sent to a Catholic Boarding school in New England, the same one she had gone to in her own youth, in an effort to help Spock make new friends and learn about his Earth culture. This, of course, does not go according to plan-- because when does Spock ever get what he wants?
As it turns out, the answer to that question is perhaps more convoluted than initially thought.

This is the Second Year of the Five Year Mission as it could have gone, with angsty romance, harrowing adventures, metaphysical revelations, and McCoy discovering that James Kirk and Spock care more about him than he'll ever know.
