Summary
“Enjoy your Mother’s Day gift?” he mumbles.
She has to stop herself from laughing—not at the gift itself, but at the fact that he went to the trouble to write her a song for Mother’s Day. Her hand drifts up to his neck, fingers wrapping around and scratching at his hairline.
“What a sweet little gift,” she coos. “You wrote a whole song just for mommy.”
His breath shudders against her.

Summary
“What the fuck did you just say?”
There’s a hint of fear in her features—her lip trembles lightly and her eyes go wide—before she catches herself and breaks into a smirk.
“It wouldn’t be…” she enunciates clearly, her lips moving around each syllable. “…the first time.”
Something in Nai snaps.

Summary
Having two more pups in the house really solidified his position as the lead of the pack. Everyone else followed his example and learned the ropes from him. Vash was no leader of people—but a few puppies? He was in his element.
And it’s not as if it was that hard to acquire them. Meryl is small and easily overpowered, while Wolfwood would follow anyone who offered him food.

Summary
Can an alternate self even have different preferences? He wonders as he bites into the bread. If there are multiple personalities, he supposes. But Nai is not an alternate personality. He’s a facet, an expression of Vash’s psyche that protects him, his—
Knife. He remembers when a patient in his dream state went off the rails and attacked him. Nai destroyed him with a flurry of sharp, otherworldly knives, turning him into nothing but specks of meat. The patient quickly changed therapists, and Vash almost lost his license over it.
In his own dream that night Nai put his hands on Vash’s face, cupping his cheeks and rubbing his thumb over their shared, mirrored beauty mark, promising that it was better to lose a job than to suffer the lasting mental effects of a traumacase stabbing him to death, even if the most lasting physical consequence was waking up shaken. Nai kissed the corner of his lips and promised to be a weapon, a blade, a knife. To make sure that they’re always safe. That no one would hurt them again.

Summary
“Miley,” Phoenix says flatly. “What are you doing?” It comes out more an accusation than a question, even if that’s not how he intends it. Miles chuckles so softly it could pass as a throat clearing.
“Trusting you.”

“I think you’ve had enough,” Phoenix mumbles, gently prying the stem of the wine glass out of his fingers. Miles grabs for it, and… misses entirely.

Phoenix comes up behind them, putting a hand just over the spot on their abdomen above their groin. He nips at their ear, asking if they’ve been checking.
“Checking what?” Miles asks, vaguely irritated Phoenix would bother them at work.

Summary
It is not an immoral thing to have one’s identity be nebulous, fuzzy at the edges; but what is he to do about it? Suddenly request the judge call him Miss Edgeworth at times? Ask the Chief Prosecutor to call him she or even they? Von Karma would laugh him out of the district.
He is in the manner of Mnestra. Who else but Caeneus will ever understand?

Summary
Phoenix always seems to sleep soundly, unless something is truly bothering him. He attributes it to his healthy appetite, and tries to poke the same kind of food into Miles’ mouth given the chance. He can’t deny that his diet also gives him something of a soft paunch over his muscled abdomen. He lets his eyes rake down Phoenix’s body—the line of his collarbone, the flattened scars that circle his chest, the gentle curve of his stomach covered in a dusting of black hair.
Miles’ hands itch.
