Summary
“Are you-” Vi cleared her throat when her words fell out in a rough tumble. “Are you real?”
Caitlyn's brow furrowed in that achingly familiar way, her lips pulling downward in a frown that somehow made her even more beautiful. “Why do you keep asking me that?”
Vi didn’t respond to her question, instead reaching out again with a shaky hand. She was just a hair’s breadth away from touching her warm skin, but she couldn’t will herself to do it. What if this was some cruel joke? What if she vanished?
There was a beat where Caitlyn stared up at Vi, and Vi tried to breathe.
And then Caitlyn shifted, just ever so slightly, to press her cheek into Vi’s palm, her eyes fluttering shut. She breathed out a sigh, and the puff of air skittered across Vi’s skin, leaving goosebumps in their wake. Vi's hand curved naturally around Caitlyn's face, thumb settling against the sharp line of her cheekbone while her fingers barely grazed the soft hair at her temple.
"I'm here, Violet." The words were barely a whisper, but Vi felt them as much as heard them—vibrations traveling through skin and bone, proof of life and presence.
Or
Caitlyn finally attends one of Vi's fights and can't help herself afterward.

Caitlyn was quiet for a moment, and pinkened considerably before: “I could.. take you out on an… outing?”
Now Vi had a matching flush creeping up her neck and she looked perplexed. “You could do what?”
Caitlyn straightened and raised her chin, just like her mother always told her to. “I could take you on a date- of sorts. I could take you to my favorite bakery, so you could try the pastries?”
Her voice died down with every word, but Vi heard them all loud and clear. She tried her best to smirk like she had seen some of the older boys do around the pretty girls, and delighted in the way Caitlyn’s eyes flickered to her lips. “I’ve always wanted to try fancy topside food. Who better to show me around than a Piltie princess?”
The words had their desired effect and Caitlyn flushed a pretty pink.

The one where they meet in a hospital instead of a jail cell, and Caitlyn's world gets turned upside down by a girl who just wanted to buy her siblings new shoes.

"And in your future... the one you came from..." Vi swallowed hard, surprised by how badly she wanted to know, leaning forward until their knees pressed firmly together, until she could see flecks of silver in Caitlyn's blue eye. "What were we?"
Caitlyn's smile was radiant. "Do you really want to know?"
Vi nodded, unable to look away, drawn into the orbit of this woman who knew her in ways she couldn't comprehend, her defenses lowering like walls crumbling to dust.
"Like I said, we were partners. Both during work and out of. We love each other." Caitlyn said it so simply, like she was saying the sky was blue, but her eyes never left Vi's, watching her reaction with a tenderness that made Vi's breath catch.
Vi felt heat creeping up her neck, a flush spreading across her cheeks like wildfire. "We were... together?" The question hung in the air between them, fragile and momentous.
"Five years," Caitlyn confirmed, voice softening further.

Caitlyn travels back in time to break Vi out of Stillwater, effectively creating a new timeline where Powder never becomes Jinx, the Firelights thrive with their new additions, and Caitlyn has too many weird dreams.

Summary
Dr. Kiramman steers her through the chaos and plants her in a chair. Does something to her arm that hurts like fuck, then drapes her in bags of ice and wraps her in a sling. Blinds her with a pen light—“Called it,” she mumbles when he confirms she’s concussed—and presses two pills and a warm mug into her hand. It smells herbaceous. Familiar.
“I brought the good stuff from home,” Dr. Kiramman confesses, and it takes her a moment to understand he means tea. “Extra honey for you. I know you haven’t acquired the taste.”
He’s right in that she only actually drank it once, the first time it was offered—the afternoon they spoke to the Council, several lifetimes ago. But she tasted it just this morning in Caitlyn’s mouth, grassy and sweet. So she pops the pills and takes a sip. Tries not to think about whether that terrified kiss over breakfast was their last. “I want to see her.”
After the war, Vi and Cait recover, and rebuild.

Summary
After ten years in Stillwater for a crime she didn't commit, Vi breaks herself out and goes home. Her homecoming doesn't go like she thought it would.
Two years later, she's out of control and out on the streets. She's now a champion pitfighter, a raging alcoholic, and completely on her own. Despite her family's best (and desperate) efforts to help, Vi's on a one-way track to ending up either dead or back in prison.
At the same time, Caitlyn arrives in the undercity to collect data and information for her thesis. She starts her research from a local bar called The Last Drop, which puts her right into Vi's path. Vi might have been out of her family's home for years, but she's still not going to let a topsider put them in danger.
Canon divergence (everyone lives!), enemies to lovers (barely, the lovers aspect happens fast), angst, trauma, addiction, and also fluff and humour (because these things can co-exist!)

But this is real. Almost terrifyingly real. It would have scared her, back then, made her reach out to test the illusion like she hadn’t ever dared to, knowing her knuckles would meet nothing but empty air. But this vision casts a shadow, catches the warm light of the bunker, sports tiny imperfections of exhaustion and effort her drunken dreams hadn’t ever seen. It’s real. She’s looking right at her.
“Sorry to say,” Caitlyn’s voice goes softer, lower, “You’ve grown a bit predictable.”
She blows air through her nose as the last syllable leaves her lips honey-smooth, and Vi somehow manages to recognize humour in her tone, but Caitlyn’s arms are still crossed, she isn’t moving, but-
She’s smiling, she’s gorgeous, she’s playful and she’s right here.
She’s here. She’s come back to me.
And Vi lunges to capture the lips of the girl who’d once held her hand through a safe and warm sleep.
In a bunker far below ground, Vi is lost, has lost it all- until those beautiful blue eyes find her again.
