“You know,” he murmurs against your skin, his voice low and lazy, “I think we should make it a rule that no one’s allowed to interrupt couch time. Ever.”
“I like it,” you reply, your voice light with amusement. “You gonna call up the president? Make it federal law?”
“Nah,” he says, tilting his head to grin up at you. “We’ll just have to enforce it ourselves. Anyone who breaks the rule gets banished to dish duty for a month.”
You laugh softly, the sound rumbling against his cheek. “Harsh punishment.”
“Deserved punishment,” he counters with mock seriousness.

It makes no sense for the moment to be so gloomy. You’ll be back in two weeks, and you’ve gone longer without seeing Charlie due to his oftentimes wonky schedule with his job, but there’s just something in the air that weighs heavily on you both. Charlie’s arms stay loosely wrapped around you, and it pains you to pull away.
“I’ll call you once I arrive, yeah?” You reassure him.
He nods, and before you know it, you’re on the road, driving away from home.

He sits at the base of the palm tree for what feels like hours, eyes closed and head leaning against the trunk, hand still desperately grasping at his dress shirt. His throat clicks when he swallows, and his eyes are greeted with stars when he opens them after hearing the blip of the chat.

He rises, and every step towards his base seems to dull the sharpness of his pain just a little. By the time he’s back by his chest monster, it’s settled at the bottom of his gut, still sharp but wrapped in a thick layer of something. Something that alleviates the pain of the initial hurt but creates a whole new sensation of suffocating numbness to replace it.

“Y’know what it reminds me of?”
Jimmy shook his head.
“It reminds me of you.”

"So," Will says, swallowing and forcing back the pettiness coating the inside of his throat, "There is a girl, then?"
Mike glances away sheepishly, blushing and raising a hand to rub nervously at the back of his neck. "Um. Not exactly."
Will frowns. What else could it possibly be, he wonders, what with the hickeys and the evasive behavior and the coming home late, all of which Will is totally normal and not annoyed about. Maybe it was - he winces at the thought - a hookup that ended poorly, or a series of unrelated incidents, or-
"What is it, then?" he asks, if only to distract himself from this obviously destructive train of thought, and Mike meets his eyes nervously.
"There's not a girl," Mike repeats, sounding a little pained, "But there is- a boy."
The world stops.
In which Mike has a boyfriend who is not Will, and Will is totally, super, very much okay with this turn of events.

“Do you want to go home?” He questions, leaning close and voice soft, and Will pauses, before nodding again. Mike lets out a breath, and lets his hand press against Will a little more firmly when he starts to sway in place again. “Okay, let’s go.”
Then he looks up and is met with smug faces, and Mike flushes when he realizes his own hypocrisy.
“I don’t talk like that,” Max recalls, voice high-pitched and overly girly and – Mike definitely doesn’t talk like that.
According to everyone in his life, Mike has a voice reserved just for Will. He tries to figure out what that says about him.

Things have been good— besides some lingering regret over not killing Shroud and the careful consolidating of corporatizing Mecha Man with dispatch work, Robert’s been alright. Hell, he even bought a bed recently.
Things spiral pretty quickly when he’s a victim of some sort of bizarro mugging and gets turned into a cat. Surprisingly, it doesn’t even rank in the top ten worst experiences of his life.
