A year had passed since Marinette found out Adrien's songs were about her, and now he didn't have to hide them anymore. He could tell her all the things they'd been bottling in for years, kiss her as much as he wanted, and write songs with her without all the secrecy about who they were about. Adrien even got to spend more time focusing on his music.
He was the happiest he'd ever been.
Until Gabriel Agreste found out that his son had been missing out on his business classes and scheduling less photoshoots. With the ultimatum that Adrien must quit making music if he can't manage to win The Voice UK, Adrien finds himself doing the scariest thing he's ever done.
Well, at least Marinette's by his side throughout the wild ride he's yet to embark on.

Adrien smiled from the other end of the dance floor, adjusting the lapels of his suit. It was nerve-wracking, per se, to be here with her, not because he was uncomfortable with her or anything of that sort, but because he needed everything to be absolutely perfect. So far, it had been going that way. Their dinner was great—he wasn’t sure he had laughed like that in a long, long while—and while he never considered himself to be much of a party person, the one they were attending was quite fun, possibly because she was by his side.

She can't decide if that's a good decision, especially since she's been in love with Adrien for years and years and she's those feelings are only, stupidly, growing more and more with each passing day. But that doesn't matter. The way Adrien smiles handsomely doesn't matter either. They're great friends and they're just spending a night together. They're just friends, and, oh boy, the warmth of this hot chocolate is not helping her cool down.

Everyone expected life to be great after Hawk Moth was defeated. It wasn't.
Adrien got stuck with a multi-million dollar company that was slowly losing faction, had to deal with his new title of "son of a supervillain", and the love of his life with someone else.
Marinette got herself into a relationship that didn't give her all that she wanted, but she couldn't tell Adrien she loved him because she knew he had bigger things to deal with.
Maybe the only thing to get out of their bad time is each other.
But that's a long story.
