Summary
Dazai concluded that flowers were nature’s artifacts of beauty. How they grew was oh, so ugly. Ugly, and violent. Their roots burrowed in the earth with tendril-like claws and fed off the land like parasites. Yet they blossomed into all shades of colors still as they sucked the life from nature itself. There was no earth to feed off inside his vessel, just blood and flesh.
(Alternatively, Dazai comes down with the illness of the flowers following the Dead Apple timeline.)
