Akechi has finally accomplished his grand, illustrious goal. He killed Akira Kurusu - his intellectual equal and greatest rival, with his own deft hand. He’d outsmarted him, and finally, he had vindication. He had absolution. He had proof of his own superiority.
It’s strange, though. The memories surrounding that night are fuzzy. Haunting. He can’t quite remember the way Akira had looked at him. If it had been anger or horror shining in his silver eyes.
(And maybe, as his mind unravels, as he relives that decisive moment over and over again, he’ll uncover the truth. As the layers of his psyche peel back, he’ll be forced to confront himself in the mirror, even if he can’t stand what he sees staring back at him.)

Akira would be the first to admit that he’s heavily reliant on his third eye inside and outside of the Metaverse, even with the headaches, the migraines, and all that comes with them. As the Phantom Thieves stumble through one rigged game after the next, in a never-ending Casino practically designed to trip them up, Akira knows that he’s dangerously close to his limit. But there’s only one way they’ll get through the latest trick - an endless line of rooms shrouded in constant, Shadow-filled darkness – and he knows there’s no other choice. Either he manages a horrific migraine, or his teammates might die. It’s an easy decision.
It's a surprise when pushing himself past his limits to finish the maze blinds him as he’s reaching the exit.
Or: Even when he’s armed with a tool that costs more with each use, Akira can’t stop overworking himself.

Prisoner, inmate, criminal— these are words that Ren quickly gets used to hearing in reference to himself. It’s hard for someone not to feel trapped with all of those labels dragging them down.
Somehow, he manages to make do, whether it be from small acts of kindness, or advice from an disembodied voice that doesn’t belong to one of the many that already live in his head.
The world (Yaldabaoth) might have it out for him, but it be damned if it thinks it can keep a Fool fully under its thumb.
Or: 5 times that Ren finds himself a little less trapped because of a sprinkle of wild card help, and one time where they all get to meet together.

The sentence echoed in Ren’s head like a gunshot. Their chance meeting with a cordial, personable celebrity had become something far more dire with just one word. Ren’s eyes sharpened with sinister intent, his glasses the only thing keeping Akechi from being cut on his glare.
“No matter. Welp, see you tomorrow.”
He looked at Morgana, who stuck his head out of his bag and met his eyes in turn. “...You noticed too, huh?” He spoke quietly. Ren didn’t say anything, simply glancing back at Ann and Ryuji as they bickered, oblivious to the incident that had occurred. “They didn’t notice, did they? ...Let’s talk about this later. Just the two of us.”
A rewrite of the black mask plot and Okumura arc, where Ren and Morgana conspire against Akechi immediately, a Persona user with a 'black mask' is never mentioned, and Morgana doesn't abandon the team because that was really fucking stupid. Also more Haru probably.

Akira grips the iron bars separating the two of them. “You’re full of shit.”
Gloved hand over his heart, Akechi raises both eyebrows in feigned offense. “Is that any way to speak to the man who feeds you now?”
