He Says He Is An Experimental Theologian by ErinPtah

Summary
Ever since Carlos was little, he and his daemon have been fans of Dr. Lyra Belacqua. Both as the most groundbreaking experimental theologian of the 20th century, and as the heroine of dozens of fantasy-adventure children's stories (based very loosely on her own mysterious childhood).
But Lyra's true legacy is still bigger than Carlos ever imagined...until he took a team of scholars to study Rusakov particles in the most theologically interesting community in Hispania Nova. Now his own day-to-day life is full of things like angels, witches, hooded spectres, portals between worlds, vague yet menacing branches of the Magisterium, and a man who walks around without his daemon and can read an alethiometer as easily as a stop sign.

In Melanie’s defense, she wouldn’t have had to do it if working at the Magnus Institute wasn’t so freaking boring.

Summary
Martin Blackwood loved people. He was a caretaker by nature, so it only seemed right that he would end up with a job that allowed him to bring comfort to people. He did it in one of the most tangible ways: food. Martin ran a diner on the outskirts of London. It was far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the city to be peaceful, but close enough to get a steady stream of patrons. In only a few short years of running it, he’d gathered a large amount of loyal customers who he knew by name.
****
Just a wholesome AU where Martin owns a diner! It's got pining, shenanigans, and a little bit of mystery solving, and much more. This is purely self-indulgent and fluffy.Bookmarked by ithrowmyviolets

Summary
Martin finds them eventually, tapered white wax, twenty or thirty of them beside a box of ancient (but dry) matches, and a little brass dish with a slot that just about fits the base of the candle. He feels like Scrooge, fitting the whole thing together, tucking a few more into his pocket before striking a match -
Which immediately goes out.
“Oh, fuck you,” Martin says into the murk.
Again -
And again, the fire vanishes. Quick and efficient as a breath. He shivers in the sudden cold.

Martin Blackwood inherits an old country house, but there are more inhabitants than he first realises. When eventually the paranormal occurrences become too frequent and dangerous for him to ignore, he has to turn to a group of misfit ghost hunters for help.

Summary
As a fisherman working under Captain Lukas, Martin has learned to keep his head down and fade into the mist. He does his work, walks further down the path Peter has laid before him, and if members of the crew occasionally disappear, Martin has learned not to ask about them. Has learned to stop caring at all.
At least until the crew pull up something strange and wonderful and impossible, tangled in one of the fishing nets. Something that Peter means ill.
No, Martin doesn't... care. But maybe he can save it. Maybe they can save each other.

As things begin to go bump in the night, Jon isn't sure if this arrangement is as fortunate for all involved as Jonah, his landlord, says it is.

However: there is a moth that keeps getting stuck in Martin's house during the rain.
These events are not as disconnected as they first appear.

“I object,” Tim said with a cunning smile as he met Martin’s eyes. “Personally, I think agreeing to be the fake boyfriend of your boss who also happens to be your crush is the best decision you could have ever made.”

Summary
Jon spends his two free hours in the middle of the day in a little half-desk, half-cubicle in the far corner of the fourth floor of the main library, right next to a wall of large windows overlooking one of the student garages. The area is so secluded that Jon is pretty sure most people think the fourth floor of the main library ends about two shelves over. Well, at least everyone but the student that’s started to sit in the desk pressed against the back of his.

“Yes, but…” He huffs, scratching the back of his neck. “I wasn’t going to ask one of them to download an app called...Lover? Lov-rrr? I don’t know how you say it.” He flaps his hands dismissively. “There are--unions and such. It wouldn’t be appropriate.”

"What is this," Martin looks up and asks, flatly.
Sasha doesn't look all that phased or upset, but she trips over her words a bit like she is. "It's a — well, a pen-pal... thing! I ripped it off of the wall at the pub." Sasha rips everything off of the wall at the pub.
"And you want me to sign up for it." Martin squints, skeptically, and then adds as an afterthought, "there is no way you got this off of the wall at Harp & Crest."
Tim and Sasha think that Martin ought to do something about this whole loneliness business.

The Reminiscences of Martin Blackwood, Post Mortem by AuralQueer

Summary
Martin Blackwood is a reporter for The Observer newspaper. He’s a normal enough man, and he’d like to keep it that way. He doesn’t have much reason to suspect anything too far out of the ordinary when he heads down to University College Hospital on a hunch to visit the man who may or may not be dead.
The man’s name is Jonathan Sims: a failed academic by all accounts, though what he’d been doing before the explosion that threw him into a six month coma is at the mercy of baseless public speculation. Now he’s lying in an empty ward with no heartbeat, dreaming.
It seems like enough to fill a slow news day.
A Victorian AU. Herein lies artistic licence, ghosts, and the slowest burn you ever did see.
