He's sitting on the other side of the waiting room from George when the door opens, so George, sitting there dumbly, gets the whole perfect slideshow presentation of it: Charles standing up, his face a ray of hope. Charles's hands falling loose to his rosso-corsa sides. Charles's face cracking open like someone's taken a hammer to it; crumbling apart like a sandcastle in the wind. He says, “No,” once, very quietly, and then he sits back down and doesn't get up.

Kimi gasps the second the alpha walks through the door and Max has to place a comforting hand on the pup’s back to remind him to breathe back out again. Max is not doing much better though, his breath catches for a very different reason to Kimi - Charles is gorgeous. Max already knew that the alpha was good looking - he’s seen the camera pan in on those pretty green eyes and noticed the pink lips with the perfect cupids bow. But that is only a taster of reality. Up close Charles is impossibly beautifully. The tv can’t capture his scent and falls short of capturing his aura. Max feels a purr vibrate in his chest and has to cough to try his best to cover up the sound.
