He grew disillusioned with warfare when other frametypes were rescued from his mission while he was left behind. Bumper was the victim of a botched repair job; he abandoned the Decepticons to seek independence.
On Earth, they put their past factions aside to survive. They live a second, quiet life as traveling amusement rides. December is an especially quiet month to be an amusement ride.

On the trip back from the Adamantine Colony plans are made, options are explored, fonts are chosen, and mutual administrative assistants exercise their read/write permissions.
“You’re really close.” SecUnit comments but does not recoil, rather it does the equivalent of leaning more of its weight on me.
“How does it feel?” I barely need to ask but I want to hear SecUnit describe the sensation.
“Full, smothering, it reminds me of 2.0.”
Because I can not help myself and because I want to see what is allowed I begin tidying up bits of its storage architecture, improving its power usage, and updating some of its out of date modules. SecUnit calls me a busybody, a neat freak, and a nerd but otherwise lets me work.

“I’m sorry, did you say eleven years old?” Ratthi asked, because humans can’t play back bits of conversations that they didn’t hear and are always asking each other to repeat things, much to the annoyance of any contracted SecUnits being forced to listen in and record everything they say to be sold for advertising data.
“Yes,” Gurathin confirmed, and then everyone was staring at me and looking all shocked and sad and whatever.
“Constructs don’t age the same way humans do,” I reminded them, before anyone could start thinking anything stupid like oh no, Murderbot is just a little kid and little kids shouldn’t be doing security and eleven year olds shouldn’t have guns in their arms. "Eleven is old for a SecUnit. Most of my inorganics are already past warranty.”
Except, because I’m an idiot, that didn’t make it better. It actually made it worse, because now even Dr. Mensah was making a concerned face at me.Bookmarked by jetbradley
