Summary
Julia Preston—previously Tartt for a short-lived marriage—has always been an iron jaw, leather tough and streetwise. She’s a battler. Even now, when Jamie thinks about her, he thinks about her in the doorway of their shitty flat at night, the hall lamp behind her casting a long shadow, a tired smile on her face, and her grease stained apron still around her waist. He thinks about her hand on the doorknob as she holds a box of leftovers from the restaurant in the other.
She is as tall as gentle giants when she asks, “Hey, Jam Tart, you waiting up for me again?”
