For all his—for lack of a better word— knowledge, the art of subtlety seemed entirely lost on Volo. Upon making himself at home in their camp in the outskirts of the lower city, he began to berate any poor soul who would listen with questions regarding their racial heritage, proclivities for magic, experience with rare beasts, any and all information they were willing to part with.
Tonight, Volo has cornered Velra, their resident half-orc sorcerer, by the cooking fire following their evening meal. While the others set about cleaning dishes, tending to various pets and familiars, arranging bedrolls, Velra was socially trapped beside the verbose man who was currently scrawling down notes on a spare piece of parchment.

Summary
Kon-el's entry into the Royal Family is an upset. He changes the hierarchy and whispers that he could assassination the Crown Prince Jon roam the castle halls.
Kon's also 13 and desperately trying to find his place in the viperous world of the royal court. He's hoping that training a taur, a wild and whipsmart colt from the Drake stables, will be just the thing to show everyone he's someone to be taken seriously.
But taurs are not easy creatures to handle. They are strong and smart and not willing to be led by the weak-willed. His father Kal-El might have the strongest bond in the kingdom with his taur, Bruce, but that's no guarantee Kon will too.

He sat completely still, absorbing her words. This was so far beyond the point he would usually allow them to go. The two of them were always balancing on the edge of this cliff, and he always had to pull them back before they could fall. Now, in the fading heat of the summer sun, it was like she took his hand and went running as fast as she could toward the plunge, and this time he wasn’t sure he wanted to stop.
The world had just ended, hadn’t it? It ended, and somehow they saved it, and now maybe they had a chance at something he never thought they could have.
