His eyes are a crimson red, which he calls his alpha eyes, but compared to the others, he can actually stop them from flashing and show their real colour. But his claws are longer and sharper, his brow is more pronounced and actually hairless, the caterpillars –like his dad used to call them– that usually sat there somehow disappeared. His shoulders are hunched like they are top heavy, which they're not but his spine seems to be deformed like that. His hair is longer than it used to be, all wild tufts of black hair that he can’t seem to tame.

Eddie's head snapped up. One of the SWAT officers was pointing at a portable monitor set up near the command vehicle—a live feed from the news broadcast still streaming from inside the school. The camera was shaky, the angle awkward, but it showed a hallway.
And there—*there*—was Buck.
Eddie's breath caught in his throat. Buck was in the middle of the corridor, and he was fighting. Not running, not hiding—*fighting*. Hand-to-hand combat with one of the shooters, brutal and desperate. Buck's face was streaked with blood, his shirt torn, but he was moving with the fierce determination of someone protecting something precious.
The camera zoomed in slightly, and Eddie could see it now—the way Buck had positioned himself. The storage closet door visible behind him. The way every move Buck made was calculated to keep the shooter away from that door, to use his body as a barrier.
"The boys," Eddie said, his voice hollow with realisation. "They're in that closet. That's where he hid them. He's—" Eddie's voice broke. "He's protecting them."

Even present-day—as he came home from a long day of Uber-ing from dawn to dusk, stripping his clothes off and walking into the shower ready for the soothing hot water only to find it freezing cold, going outside of his fixer-upper of a house to go to the back and check if there was a problem with his haphazardly installed water heater with the only external light source being the phone that he held in his hand—he was naive.
So maybe he should’ve listened, but he hadn’t. And he wasn’t able to get the chance to regret that fact before getting bitten and dragged off by a growling creature on all fours.
Eddie gets bitten and infected by a chupacabra, Buck has to use his powers as a witch to help him.

The itching under his skin hummed in a slightly off tune. When Buck was outside the Diaz door, he could physically feel Eddie’s happiness, without seeing him. Here, on the porch, he could feel that Eddie’s happiness was at about… 78%. High, honestly. Through the closed door, he could hear music playing softly and Chris yelling at a video game in his room.
