    What if Javert had jumped into the water after Jean Valjean at the hospital? Only to remember right before he hit the surface the in his refusal to let Valjean escape again, he completely neglected the fact that he can’t swim. He begins to slip under the water, refusing to make a sound or cry for help, when he feels a strong arm grab him. He loses conciousness as he’s being dragged through the water. Later in the hospital, Jean Valjean long gone from Montreuil-sur-Mer, Javert is told that Monsieur Le Maire had saved his life that night. Javert can do nothing by lay there and accept it as his world is turned on its axis (a whole 9 years early). The real question? What will he do when he gets out of the hospital?

    “You know nothing of me! I was born inside a jail, with scum like you!” The words sounded as if they were torn from Javert’s throat. He had never revealed something personal before.

    Although this information startled Jean as it was likely intended to, he did not let it stop him as he turned and dove out of the window, plunging into the freezing lake below. Raising his head above the water, he began to swim away in smooth, powerful strokes, but hesitated as he heard a splash behind him. It was too big of a noise for someone diving in, it sounded more like someone falling in. Risking a glance behind, he saw nothing, just the water settling from its disturbance. He tread water for a few more seconds, waiting for Javert to break the surface and begin the chase once more, knowing it was a risky move to wait. But the water stilled.

    “Javert!” He called out, the dark lake seeming to amplify his voice, and the panic that was starting to seep into it. “Javert!” He called again, hoping against hope that there would be something, anything to answer him.

    Something was very wrong. There was no question, he had to make sure the inspector was safe even if it meant he would always live under Javert’s shadow. He swam back to where the ripples had been strongest and dove under the surface. The night was dark and cold, and the water even more so. He opened his eyes and felt as if he could see even less than when they were closed. Nevertheless, he groped around under the water, allowing himself to sink a bit as he did. His foot came into contact with something. Twisting his body down, he grabbed at it, and found that he was holding another leg, it was Javert! Moving his hands until he could grab an arm, he pulled up as he kicked his legs, breaking the surface once more, taking gasping breaths to revive his lungs.

    一阵眩晕，往事涌入我的脑子，我突然没站稳。再次睁开眼，我躺在了床上，Javert坐在我旁边，仔细地给一把手枪上油。
    刚才发生的事情想电影一样从我眼前划过。
    一把枪！我摸了Javert的配枪然后塞到他嘴里！我恐惧地意识到。
    我没敢喊他。但他却好像背后长了眼睛似的转过头来了。
    “终于想起我来了？”他说。
    “Javert，我很抱——”
    他吻住了我，我们的舌头交缠着，然后分开。
    “你——”
    我屏住呼吸，等待着接下来的话。
    “下次别动我的枪，好吗？”
    Javert拽回了我将要离家出走的心脏。我坐起身，紧紧拥抱了他。

    Never ceasing his duties, Javert looked up with wide, cloudy eyes and wordlessly asked for confirmation of his goodness and his obedience. He looked so young like this, unburdened by past worries and fears. Love and devotion were what ruled him in this state, and Valjean felt heady knowing it was all directed at him, all his doing.

    Valjean sighed. “Yes, you are. My sweet, good boy. Your Papa loves you.”

    “Mmm.” The jester turned onto her side. “Talk about what?”

    “Everything! Er, not everything, but everything that’s happened recently! You know, like, our future marriage! And…”

    Caine eyes fell upon Pomni’s middle. He became eerily quiet, a sudden sense of strange apprehension overcoming him. Pomni noticed this. She sat up, her face screwing in confusion before it clicked.

    “The baby?” She finished for him.

    “Am I allowed to call it that?” Caine looked up.

    Pomni’s brows knit together, sympathy laden in her expression. She took Caine’s hands in hers and squeezed gently.

    “Yeah. That’s… that’s okay. I can’t keep tiptoeing around it anymore. I-It’s,” She paused, then shrugged. “It’s the baby. Our baby.”

    “Our baby.” Caine repeated.

    Pride swelled in his chest as he said the words out loud. He hadn’t been able to acknowledge it before. It was always the file, the attachment, or just it. But now he could call it the baby. His baby! His and Pomni’s baby, their baby! Caine vibrated gleefully.
