At the Spring Qualifiers, Kindaichi is sitting behind one of those nurse's office curtains in the trainer's center, waiting to see someone about a mild ankle injury. While he's waiting, two more people enter the room and wait behind their own curtain -- without knowing that Kindaichi is there. Turns out he knows both of these people, and he isn't altogether above eavesdropping on his old teammate.

Bruce skidded to a halt, breath hissing through his teeth.
Superman’s head came up sharply, like the sound of Bruce’s shock still meant something to him—and it was Clark, but he was different. Different lines on his face, a subtly different curl to his hair, and as he looked Bruce up and down his eyes blew wide.

When the League tries to bring in a thief with stolen reality-shifting technology, Clark is accidentally exchanged with his counterpart from a universe that's almost identical—except he's married to Lois. "It really is so good to meet you, baby," she says, smiling tremulously at him. He can process hearing "baby" even less than he could "son". "I'm Martha Kent. This is my husband Jonathan. You can call us Ma and Pa, once you're comfortable with it."
"What's your name, son?" the old guy–Jonathan, Superman tries to think, because thinking "Pa" sounds way too intimidating right now–Jonathan asks. Superman knows what he wants to say, but . . .
But for the first time, saying "Superman" doesn't feel . . . honest.
"Experiment Thirteen," he admits in a mutter, hiding his hands behind his back after all, and both Jonathan and Martha's faces tighten.
