    Ricky’s had his fair share of hyung figures in his short career as a trainee. This is what the word ‘hyung’ means to him:

    1. A hyung is an older guy who is younger than forty-five (after that, he’s a sir, uncle, grandfather)
    2. You need to turn away when drinking in front of a hyung
    3. A hyung usually takes charge of situations

    Zhang Hao does take charge when needed but beyond that, he doesn’t really act like a hyung. He doesn’t make the younger trainees turn away when they drink together, nor does he ever pull the age rank. Ricky just cannot summon a good enough explanation for why he would let Zhang Hao affectionately semi-bully him on a daily basis.

    It must be a Zhang Hao thing, he decides, for lack of a better conclusion.
