    There are many things that Puss in Boots wants. He wants to be a better friend to Shrek and Donkey. He wants to take care of and protect Perrito. He wants to give Kitty a beautiful wedding and be the loving husband she deserves.

    But something sinister is stirring the foundations of the world, and Puss’s loved ones are gradually being turned into pawns on opposite sides of a supernatural game of chess. Puss finds that just after letting go of his lonely life as a larger-than-life hero, as a legend—he may have to reassume that role to save them. Does he want to? Not particularly, but that’s what makes him the perfect queen in the upcoming war.

    And this time, he doesn’t have to face his trials alone, and the necessity to fight for his king becomes his loyalty to protect a new soulmate. The soulmate who once terrorized him, and is now the only one who understands Puss in Boots as an equal.

    When he failed to get his wish, Jack Horner used his magical artifacts in an attempt to escape Death. He still died, of course; but Death had been injured in a previous fight, leaving the wolf vulnerable. Now Midas’ Touch is spreading, and Death can only slow the process until he finds a cure. He will need help for that, but most magical and non-magical beings would much rather let the embodiment of Death turn into a gold statue forever and grant everyone immortality. Well, most beings.

    Or: Death gets a curse, a conscience, and a crush. One might argue he just got three curses. But Midas’ Touch is the more direct threat to his existence and work, so he will look for a solution to this particular problem, and ignore the other two until they go away.

    Wolfwood comes back at the worst times. It’s been two hundred years since he died. Two hundred years, three days, four hours and thirteen seconds. That is to say, a long time. And Vash thinks about him all the time. He thinks about him drunk out of his mind. Thinks about him while Vash is running and shooting and hunkering down in the desert to sleep, gazing up at the broken glass sky. Vash thinks about Wolfwood when he goes to visit the girls, sitting in the lot where their graves are. Vash smiles at their families, before slinking back out into the desert. He sees Wolfwood in the shadows that fall and the cigarettes hanging off mouths. He’s in the heat of the sun and the cool of the night, the long empty halls of ship three that Vash tends to haunt. And now he’s in Vash’s throat and chest while Vash is on his stomach in a musty smelling bed.
