But Tim only made the exact same circular motion back at her...
Angela groaned dramatically at his stubbornness. "...Pregnant."
"What? Lucy is not pregnant," Tim said, completely shocked that he was having this conversation. "Why the hell would you assume that?"
"Her Boobs!"

He looked at her, something in his chest loosening at the quiet certainty in her voice.
“And if sacrificing a little sleep means making your day a little easier, then I’m happy to do it.” Her smile turned teasing. “Besides, it’s not every day I get to be the one saving your ass.”
“I'm not sure I'd go that far.”
“Of course you wouldn't.”

He knew the answer, of course.
It had everything to do with the way she looked at him when she wanted something. The slight tilt of her head, the hopeful little smile, those big brown eyes that somehow managed to make him feel like the most terrible person in the world for denying her even the smallest thing.
It was like kicking a puppy. A very pretty, very manipulative puppy who knew exactly what she was doing.

“C’mon,” Nova says, folding her other hand over his. “You don’t really need that, do you?”
To his credit, Tim plays the part surprisingly well, his gaze flitting down to their hands for a brief moment as he visibly hesitates.
“You should come to the party after work,” she continues. “We’d have fun.”
Over the years, she and Tim have exchanged thousands of conversations in complete silence, a quick look or a pointed stare simply another part of their shorthand. By now, his eyes are a steady, familiar anchor—an ocean blue lightning strike of familiarity that she shouldn’t feel as Nova Lin. As soon as she catches herself leaning into it, Lucy tries to seal herself back in her box, letting the chemist play her game as she waits for Officer Bradford to make his final move.
By the time she’s registered the crack of the gunshot, he’s already staggering backwards.

It only happens after a long day.
It only happens at her place
It doesn’t happen in their vehicles, or as Tim calls her car “the death trap.” It sure as hell doesn’t happen in the station, and it doesn’t happen in any place they could get caught. It’s forbidden enough already; with her only being his boot for four and a half months and still in long sleeves for who knows how long.
Out of anything they’re doing intimacy-wise, this is the most innocent thing they could do because it’s not intimacy, not direct intimacy anyway.
That’s what they keep telling themselves. Despite the way they’re doing this, it’s moments of pleasure and that’s it. It doesn’t get brought up on shift, their relationship on shift doesn’t change. He’s still an asshole, and she’s still an over-eager rookie who wants the approval of those around her.

“I killed him,” Tim says again, just in case she didn’t understand, but Lucy just makes a noise and grabs for her body wash. It smells like lavender, and Tim wants to complain but he finds that he doesn’t actually mind.
“I know, Tim,” Lucy says again, and Tim makes a confused noise. She steps back and looks up at him, and she must see that he’s struggling because she pauses, the loofah in her hand soaked in body wash. “I know. You killed him, to save me.”
“I was so mad,” he whispers, and Lucy nods, making a soft noise of understanding as she presses the loofah to his chest. She scrubs gently, and Tim shudders as the scent of her surrounds him. He’s spent the past five months surrounded by this scene in the shop, and it’s comforting and calming. “I was so mad and I just… I just didn’t stop, and he’s dead.”

Lucy and Wesley know their partners can hear everything, which makes committing to the cover far more entertaining. Tim and Angela remain perfectly professional. Nyla Harper has doubts about both claims.
