Laurent picked her for Nicase, partly because she was gentle and nimble, an excellent choice for a child, and partly because choosing a mare, not a gelding, dramatically reduced the chances of Nicaise deciding to name her Laurent.

Literally just a road trip au. Damen lets a stranger (Laurent) hitch a ride down to California with him.
