Summary
Xingqiu had always expected to be the one who confessed first.
Some days, he would sit on the edge of his bed, fingers digging into silken sheets and his legs swinging as he rehearsed lines he could never find the will to actually say out loud. Much less, say out loud to Chongyun’s face. Even still, Xingqiu hadn’t actually imagined Chongyun to come out with his feelings before him. Maybe Chongyun was good at hiding his feelings, maybe Xingqiu was just too caught up in his to even recognize his companion’s own (looking back, the swordsman now feels dumb to have not realized the way Chongyun’s face dusted pink when the both of them would accidentally get too close), but somehow the two managed a way to communicate.
In short, a slight progression of Xingqiu and Chongyun dating. Xingqiu comes to learn that his boyfriend is rather clingy, but not in a bad way.

His heart fluttered precariously in his throat at thinking about how he was dating him and how pretty Xingqiu was. Pretty. Huh. That wasn’t a weird thought, was it? Chongyun was allowed to think that, right? A boy could think that about another boy, right? And want to hold hands with that boy. And hug that boy. And… kiss that boy and— hahh
In short, Chongyun and Xingqiu are working together, but the poor exorcist isn’t sure how to deal with his feelings.

Even before he had his Vision, Chongyun had blocked off the rest of the world with an icy stare and an even icier outward appearance. Xingqiu, however, managed to worm into Chongyun’s life, and then, almost just as quickly, strutted his way right into his heart without even trying.
They were little things, really. Tiny. Insignificant details to those who hadn’t had the pleasure of falling in love with Xingqiu. Because that was it, wasn’t it? Chongyun was in love with Xingqiu. He was in love with his best friend and couldn’t, for the love of the Sevens, stop falling.

It’s a phrase Chongyun has now heard at least a hundred times already in the past three months, the answer always a yes, please because how could he possibly say no to Xingqiu? Even still, Chongyun finds his stomach jumping and his neck spiking with increased warmth.
Three months of dating, plus seemingly hopeless pining nine more months prior, Chongyun still couldn’t get over the idea of Xingqiu liking him back.
