Realising that I didn’t actually know if the reverse was true felt like someone had reached into the deepest part of me and scooped me hollow. I’d always been his, and his alone— I was disconcerting and difficult to get along with, and only Will had ever cared to stay for the child inside of me that longed to be seen and understood. Besides, I’d only ever had eyes for Will. I only ever wanted to be his.
