He was the new kid in some gigantic Portland suburban high school, his mom was dead and his new stepmother was trying to replace her, and now his dad was forcing him to go to some bullshit Shoplifting Anonymous Meeting, so excuse James Potter if he wasn't the charming, extroverted, life-off-the-party soccer star that he used to be.
Sirius Black appeared to have a perfect life. He was the heir to a fortune, a football quarterback, and the mysterious leather-clad bad boy all at the same time. Girls salivated when they heard his name. He was straight out of a young adult novel... except that was the issue. He wasn't straight.
Remus Lupin was a lot of things. He was a straight-A student, a stoner, a Mathlete, and more importantly, on probation.

Summary
The BAU have a new case - a string of suspicious suicides in Las Vegas with too many similarities to be coincidental. As they start to unravel the mystery, Derek becomes increasingly preoccupied by one of their key witnesses Spencer Reid, a chronic gambler and drug addict who never left to join the BAU.
When it becomes obvious that there is a serial killer at work, the team utilises Spencer's intelligence to help crack the case. Derek, however, can't help but feel protective over the younger man, especially when the case takes a dangerous turn.
Spencer doesn't want his protection. He's lived his whole life fending for himself and barely just surviving. And yet, he finds that maybe he doesn't mind the fact that someone other than himself cares about his wellbeing.
Maybe, just maybe, the two of them will find their way to each other.

A universe where Spencer never joins the BAU, but crosses paths with them anyway.

None of us are real artists. Real artists are out on the streets and in the pubs, playing for a few pennies, a pint, or just their own bloody happiness. They can’t read sheet music, half of the time they’re out of tune, yet they make you feel something.
But us? We’re boring. Playing the same sonatas and the same bloody concertos that have been played for hundreds of years, trying to prove we’re better than all the others who played them first. Better at what? Better at copying? At being boring? Tell me, what’s actually better; being flawless at something done a thousand times or playing your own fucking music?”

Remus is sick of the piano. After a summer of sleazy clubs and too many drugs, his parents send him to Hogwarts Conservatory. What at first seems to be a death sentence soon turns out to be a place where he can actually learn a thing or two about himself.

“Maybe that’s my excuse then,” Sirius said. “I cause a bit of chaos now, and maybe one day, it’ll turn into rock and roll.”After losing his mother at age eleven, Remus has spent the better part of the last four years bouncing from school to school or else running around London and pretending as though he wasn't the kind of well-bred boy his father brought him up to be. Now, with his chances all run out, Remus is sent to Hawkings Independent School as a last-ditch effort to clean up his act. There he meets the very people who will set up the rest of his life, and is forced to confront the pieces of himself he'd long thought had been lost.
