They performed their missions well and admirably,’ despite being pains in my ass, he thought uncharitably to himself, ‘and they were med-evac’d out last week, off the aircraft carrier. I had to be in meetings last week, but I need to go see them tomorrow. It’s part of being a good leader.”
“Are they going to look gross?”
“Kennedy!”
Sloane sighed and spoke to her sister. “People who get hurt in combat are to be honored, Kennedy. They never look gross.”
Beau took a bite of his pizza, “Exactly.”
Sloane looked at her dad. “So are they burned?”
He stared at her for a long moment, then spoke. “No. No, they’re not burned. Relax. Both of you."
