But all too soon he’s thinking of the microscope they’re about to be put under—how the brass will be looking at every second of this through the tightest lens, ensuring the integrity of the investigation isn’t compromised by their relationship.

“Hey,” she says, smiling. She’s got a little pink bow in her hair, which has newly been dyed blue and put into neat braids. “I know it’s a little nontraditional, but I was wondering if someone could tag along with Mattel for spring break? Just one person, nothing crazy.”
Schpood figures Bardun would have strong opinions — damn traditionalist social chairs — but he shrugs. “Why not?”
Madzvie grins. “Great. I’ll tell Jophiel yes!”

Anthony thought he would never be able to get past the Berbrooke mishap. It did not help that his mother, sisters, and brothers did not seem like to let him forget it.
It was not Berbrooke per say, or the problems he’d engendered, that were the root issue. It was everything else around the affair that grated at him: his mother’s derision, his sister’s stubbornness, his brothers’ carelessness, and all of it had pre-existed Berbrooke and was not like to disappear after him. If anything, the whole incident had only strengthened the opinion that his family had of him, and Anthony, too tired to fight, decided the preferable recourse was his only one: hiding.
Or: the AU of season 1 where Anthony decides to let Daphne manage her season after his mistake with Lord Berbrooke, and everyone finds that they do need him.
Or still: the one where Anthony solves his issues without a gun but a gun is still the solution.

She’s been planning it for weeks, excitedly bugging him about his favorite foods and what wine would go best with the steaks they’d decided on, and Tim had promised her that he would be off on time. He’d promised he wouldn’t have to cancel, that he’d be off and on his way by 7 but here he is, buried under paperwork that he can’t put off.A second message comes through exactly eleven minutes after the first, and Tim feels his heart plummet as he reads her words. His chest feels tight and achy, and he fucking hates himself a little bit.
Lucy: You’re not going to make it, are you.

Tim clears his throat from his side of the bed, tugging the blanket a little further up his chest as he runs his hand through his messy hair.

Lucy chuckles awkwardly from where she’s staring at the ceiling, ignoring how her knee is pressing into Tim’s naked thigh. Ignoring how the whole room smells of sex. Ignoring how her heart is still racing and her whole body still covered in a thin sheen of sweat.
