Summary
Sam had never wanted anyone to know.
He could barely handle it himself, knowing that he’ll never quite be who he wants to be, knowing that there’s no way he’ll ever be completely there. He knows his voice is too high, his hips are too wide, he knows it all, but he can’t do anything about it other than hope other people don’t know too.
But, as with everything, a time always comes up where some things need to be shared.

But when a night out celebrating his birthday results in the deaths of the two people he loved most in this world, he's left to pick up the pieces and raise a child on his own. The only person who could possibly understand his situation would be his aunt Marnie, but as time goes on, he feels even she doesn't get it.
Going through the motions and going it alone takes a toll on him, a toll that can only be remedied by finally coming home to Pelican Town after all these years. He swore it would change him for the best, it would make everything better! But Shane would soon learn that beneath every rock bottom was a deeper, rockier bottom, and he can't climb out alone. He'd have to swallow his pride and learn how to move on, but who knows how long it'll take?

Summary
Adam began to guide Ben through the motions of the increasingly familiar post-game day routine. They found a bench to sit down on, Adam pulled out his phone to look up the closest hotels, and Ben stared straight ahead at the people walking past them. Adam threw out suggestions for different restaurants and hotels, all of which received a grunt of acknowledgement from Ben, followed by a–much too fond–sigh of exasperation from Adam.
