    He turned his head to watch L. It was difficult to make out what he might be thinking. It wasn’t hard to discern the anger in his eyes, but there was far more there, layers and layers of things that L simply hadn’t had enough time with him to disentangle. Every thought, every emotional response, L wanted to understand, but there was no—

    If Light was allowed to go through with his plan, whatever it was, L would have died. He knows this.

    Light got his memories back, but the time spend with L without them changed his goal. He doesn't want the detective to die. Funnily enough L shares the sentiment, not wanting his 'rival' to get executed for being a mass murdurer.
    Now if only there was a way to make sure that they would be bound forever, with no easy way of escaping.

    Light and L would rather baby trap each other, than be normal, healhy adults and talk about their feelings. What ensures is way too many plans, and panic so everything goes perfectly.
