“They’re amazing, right?” Sou looks over at Shori who’s staring at Kento and Fuma talking with the staff. “Don’t you think so?”
“Of course,” Sou says, “they’ve always been.”
“No, no, like,” Shori pauses, “don’t they seem untouchable? Like no matter what we do, we’ll never be able to catch up? I’m only a year and a half younger than Fuma and it still feels impossible.”
“You have different strengths, Shori. We all do.”
“Not like that,” Shori sounds frustrated then sighs. “They feel like a whole different world. We’re with them every day, and even though we’re equals, I feel like I stare at their backs. I don’t know if I want to catch up or if I want them to just notice me or include me. I don’t know.” Shori keeps staring at them even though they’ve split up now—Kento talking to his manager and Fuma playing around with Marius. “We’ll always be kids to them.”

Chinen closes his eyes and sighs, thinking about his options. It’d be wise to push Nakajima away, tell him it’s the broken heart talking since it’s no longer a “what-if” scenario stemming from anxiety, that he’d choose anyone in front of him and that it happens to be Chinen because they’ve been talking about Yamada for months now and there was no reason to venture out for a quick fuck and risk being discovered and being all over the rumor boards.
It’d be wise to explain all of that and push Nakajima away.
But Chinen is human. He’s weak. And he’s been alone for a long time.

“What if,” Kon clears his throat, “what if we just do this again.” He hates how nonchalant that sounds, the best thing in his life being reduced to “this”, but the months passing of forced contact kept the break tender like a skinned knee rubbing on pants when walking and sitting.
“What? You mean we get back together because we don’t know how to be friends anymore? Doesn’t that sound stupid?”
Kon looks down at their hands. “Yeah, you’re right. That was… that was a bad idea. Forget it.” Even though he wants to explain that he’s still in love with Tim and wants to try again and try harder.
