Summary
Before Valentina Ortiz left for college, she kissed her best friend Riley Andersen on the cheek and told her to keep in touch. She hoped the gesture would be the start of something special, so that the next time she returned home, something special may blossom into something real.
Then one day, Riley disappeared. No matter how many times Val called or texted, she never heard back, and even when she returned to San Francisco, everyone told her that Riley had quietly finished high school and moved away. Eventually Val had to assume the worst, but she never forgot about her best friend.
Five years later, forced by an injury to take time off from hockey, Val decides to settle in a small town in Minnesota, and maybe live some of the life she's been putting off in favor of her sport. She's not sure what she's looking for, until a chance encounter reunites her with the girl she never thought she'd see again.
Only, something's different about Riley. She's the same person, but she's not. Val doesn't care, though—she's determined to reconnect, and to not let this second chance at happiness slip away.

Summary
A world where everyone is a woman of varying permutations and where sex is normalized and mundane. Public nudity and sex are commonplace, taboos don't exist, and consent is universal. Everyone is an adult and no children are present.
In this world, after a brief bonding period (one to two years), people are sent to boarding schools until they reach 18 years of age. Then, after a month-long 'special education' class, they are sent home. Parents and siblings are free to visit the school, but the students are not allowed to leave until they graduate. After that, they're enrolled in a high school for four more years, then they either join the workforce, pursue their passions, or go to university. Basically, everything gets shifted up by about four years or so, so don't be surprised to see 21-year-old high school seniors.
The story loosely follows Holly, a high school senior; her mother, Nicole; and her best friend, Veronica. The story will branch at times and chapters are not necessarily sequential or related to the previous chapter, except that they take place in the same world.

Summary
She sits down under one of the larger trees she finds to rest her sore feet and weary head. Maybe not sleep, but certainly sit for a while. Her hand fishes through the pocket her phone and rosary sit in, phone barely having enough service where she is to get in contact with her group. She calls ahead, telling them to go forward with the plan, but take him farther into the forest. His body cannot be found, under any circumstances. She’ll catch up to them later.
But after, she looks through photos. Her google drive is filled to the brim of the last ten years at minimum, all candid and somewhat blurry photos imported from the dozens of cameras and SD cards she’s gone through before she finally got a phone.
She wonders what could’ve been.
