Summary
Scholar of ancient history/Scholar in enemy land with whom they correspond
For ancient history, we have ancient alphabets. For an enemy land, I think borders and alliegiances changed so often that no one is really sure who or what was the enemy. But we have scholars and correspondence and a slowly blooming romance which no one really saw coming.
