Will has a tendency to fall in love with things the way only boys raised on promises of paradise and unbearable guilt can, unknowingly and devastatingly complete.
He sometimes wonders if wanting something can ever be clean, if desire and goodness can ever coexist inside his body. He tells himself that it doesn’t matter anymore, but maybe he’s just learned to lie so convincingly he starts to believe it.

A memory springs to mind: two weeks ago, drunk on Hayden's couch, curled up with Jackie. His voice, soft and quiet, heartbroken with desire, wavering through words about the impossibility of wanting.
