Summary
Wylan can't help but think that a mausoleum becoming the crew's safehouse feels like a perfect final flourish to round off the whole comedy of errors that his life has become. The last elegant wave of a conductor’s baton, drawing the orchestra together into a clear, resounding resolution: Wylan, sitting cold and pale and invisible among the dead, where no one will ever go looking for him.
The punchline is that Wylan is very much alive. He just feels like a ghost of himself. Over the last four months, he’s learned that the two can be, and frequently are, co-occurring truths.
in which wylan sits on black veil island and thinks about death a little bit, and then thinks about jesper a lot. jesper thinks about wylan, also a lot. there is staring and pining and bickering and a lime-green jacket and everyone takes a much-deserved nap.

This upsets Jordie quite a bit. In an attempt to pay off Kaz's indenture, and save his brother from the threat of Jurda Parem, Jordie Rietveld, Dregs Lieutenant and confidence man, makes a deal with Jan Van Eck to perform an impossible heist.
Naturally, Kaz, busybody extraordinaire, is not about to let his brother screw up in a foreign land alone. He's going to steal his brother's heist and one Bo Yul-Buyur --or his nearest relative, whatever works best --and save his idiot big brother from a Fjerdan prison. And if this means running out on Rollins -well, thirty thousand Kruge should be more than enough money to pay his way out trouble. Right?

"It used to, when I was very little," Jesper confessed. There was a small smile on his lips.

It’s a relatively straightforward job: Jesper will pretend to be the handmaid to the withdrawn and sheltered Van Eck heir, and convince him to elope with another mercher. That’s all Jesper has to do on his end, and then the Crows will walk away with 45 million kruge. It’s a simple task.
Or it would be, if not for the fact that there seems to be more to Wylan Van Eck than meets the eye, and Jesper can’t help but be intrigued—and maybe a bit charmed, too.
