Summary
Jamie's trying to be good, is the thing. A good man would go visit his dad in hospital, no matter how much he'd rather not, right? If it were Jamie himself who were ill or hurt, Dad probably wouldn't come all the way to London for him... but Jamie is better than him. This proves it.

Summary
“Alright, enough,” Roy says. He reaches out, knocks Jamie’s wrist until he hands over the nearly empty bottle. “This is a fucking celebration. Let’s start fucking celebrating.”
Jamie blinks at him with something like confusion, dark circles like bruises under his eyes. I can’t sleep. And maybe he’s already getting tipsy, but something about the way Jamie keeps staring at his phone is doing Roy’s fucking head in.
“We could play a game?” Keeley offers, crossing one leg over the other. “That’s celebratory.”
Or, a little bit more Roy, Keeley, and Jamie softness, immediately post 3x11.

Summary
"I would’ve called you something else," his mother had said, once. She had been holding his cheek in her palm, running her thumb underneath his eye. She looked at his face like there should’ve been something there that wasn’t; like she was seeing a miracle in real time. "Anything else. I’m sorry that I’m not the only one who has to remember him."
OR:
The last straw between Jamie and his father that led to Lust Conquers All, and a character study of someone who is just starting to learn how to undo the damage done to him, and done by him.

Summary
Sometimes it didn’t feel like his body was actually a body, see. And when that happened, it was good to have someone else there to remind you. Like a hug in the Wembley Stadium away team dressing room that brought your feet back down into your shoes and your lungs sucking in air.
But other times, Jamie was all skin. Too aware of himself, down to the marrow. The tanned flesh stretched across the muscles of his thighs. The soft, seamless barrier of his wrist, through which he could see the purpled veins on the other side, so close all he could think about was how little it would take, really, to break through. Open himself out.
Jamie, his skin, and a lifetime (so far) of learning to live in it.

Summary
The thing is: Roy does worry.
Since Arsenal, Total Football at Richmond has taken over and it is working so well it's actually unbelievable. Everyone is upping their game to new heights. The team has never looked so united. Roy has been around the game a long time and he knows they are playing beautifully, as well as well.
They start to win more often than they lose or draw.
And it's - it's poetry.
But Roy does worry about Jamie.

Summary
"I was wonderin' if you might… teach me?"
Roy can only stare back at him. Teach him… what, how to pull? How to fuck? Roy must be dreaming, because there's no way in hell the Jamie Tartt he knows has the bollocks or the self-awareness to ask him for such a thing. Jamie's eyes only seem to get rounder the longer Roy looks at him, as if he's growing more hopeful of a positive answer. That particular delusion snaps Roy out of it. "No. Fuck no. Why the fuck would I wanna do that?"

Summary
After the locker room disaster in Manchester, Roy drives Jamie home. The chaos they find when they arrive at the house swiftly proves it is not a safe place to spend the night, forcing a change of plans and a reroute to Roy’s own home.
The following day Jamie experiences, in this order:
The most bewildering breakfast of his life, a penalty kick clinic with a seven-year-old, and an overwhelming display from his teammates that brings him face to face with the fact that not only has he been accepted back in Richmond it’s also possible he might be, in a way he can’t remotely process or understand, loved here.

Summary
In the aftermath of the match against Manchester City, Ted, Roy, and Jamie struggle with demons shared and separate.
Then Beard’s here, then his dad is gone, just the gunshot crack of the door to herald their departure. He’d wince at the sound, but his muscles have turned to lead. And Jamie’s here, the only person in this room, the spotlight on him casting everyone else in shadow. He knows they’re out there somewhere, audience to a Greek fucking tragedy, and maybe when this is over they’ll realize they should be applauding.
