    Summary

"You're so used to surviving at a level of distress most people can't even imagine; I don't think you can even fathom not existing in it. It is killing you and you're letting it." Jack waited to catch Robby's gaze. "Are you asking me to watch you die, Misha?"

Robby flinched and averted his gaze further; he felt a surge of all the horrible feelings inside him wash over him, and the monitor's beeping stuttered.

Jack turned inward; he couldn't bear to look at Robby. This is the precipice; the liminal space where Before becomes After. There's no going back. It is out of his control. Robby either jumps off the roof or he doesn't. Robby either lives or doesn't. Then what? Jack relaxed his grip on reality, simply letting it all fall away with his breath.

    OR

Robby finally has a breakdown two months after PittFest. Jack fights like hell to keep him safe and out of hospital.

    Summary

Years of telling half-truths, of every moment of acceptance still tinged with bitterness, of lying to partners because they wouldn’t understand. Strange, that this was a lie he could understand from her. Strange, that they always seemed to be telling the same lies at the same time.

(In which Giles and Jenny, having come to terms with the skeletons in their partners' closets, stumble into discovering the closets themselves -- and learn that they have a particularly well-guarded secret in common.)

    Summary

Once, during a lull at the beginning of his shift, Perlah had found Abbot in the stairwell, humming tonelessly under his breath as he’d stared at the underside of the steps and tapped out a rhythm on his knees. Hadn’t been until later that Robby had put two and two together and realized that the fireworks being set off across the river due to the Steelers winning sounded like mortar shells going off.

Maybe that was it. It pissed Robby off that his night shift attending who stood on the roof at daybreak after shitty nights and who should probably up his antidepressant dose and who sat in stairwells looking at nothing for thirty minutes during PTSD episodes had caught his mistake. His mistake. His. Him: Dr. Michael Robinavitch String-of-letters-behind-the-name, Senior Emergency Attending Physician of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Was it rational? No. But it pissed him off anyway.

    ~

    Robby's simmering resentment boils over.

    Abbot... handles it.

    Summary

Mr Goodsir looked towards the floor, a look of silent despair on his face. He took a deep breath.
    “I’ve been…having thoughts, Doctor.”
    “A miracle, one might think.”
“No…not like…” a pause, he refused to look Stephen in the eye. “I think you know what I mean by that, Sir.”
Stephen considered the downturned face of Mr Goodsir for a while, his arms uncrossing to lean one on his desk, his fingers gently drumming against the wood as Goodsir sank deeper and deeper into mortification under the doctors knowing look.
“You mean… thoughts of an unchristian nature?”

Mr Goodsir approaches Dr Stanley with the hopes that he would have some form of medical cure for inappropriate thoughts, which have been plaguing him. Stanley has something that might help.
