Summary
The moon's light danced across the figures of two men hidden away in a cabin. They raced across the wooden floors, stuffing trinkets, potions, books, and anything in their line of sight into bags. The taller man was frantic; his hands shook, and his heart was racing at an alarming speed. On the other hand, his shorter companion was calmer, his features scrunched in frustration and there was a hint of anger in his actions as he shoved things into one of the bags with more force than was required. A pitter-patter alerted them to the presence of a small raccoon at their feet, who chittered in distress. This could only mean the townspeople are nearing the cabin...
Or ranpoe as a witch and shapeshifter on the run!

Kunikida stared at it for a beat. When he unfolded it, the crackle sounded too loud.
“Why do you have it?” he managed at last.
“To keep our resident kitten asleep.”

Summary
Ranpo spends his whole life feeling out of place and misunderstood. He struggles to feel like he belongs until one awkward tall man stumbles into his life and changes it forever. It would be perfect if the man wasn't stuck in a cycle of perpetual self-loathing and therefor otherwise incapable of acknowledging any strong emotion. Ranpo is really screwed. He shouldn't have fallen for such a ridiculous person. It's okay though because Ranpo is the world's greatest detective and getting Edgar Allan Poe to admit he's worthy of love should be child's play. Shouldn't it?
Or
Ranpo's strategic flirting in an attempt to get the oblivious and paranoid Edgar Allan Poe to both trust him and admit his feelings.

One of the first ever ranpoe fics I ever read and let me tell you that it DID NOT disappoint. Absolutely scrumptious. Nothing can top the level of care and just high-quality writing that this fic had. Pretty sure this is my favorite fic of all time!!!
