Summary
"Sir,” Steve swallows, taking a deep breath and looking him in the eye. “I don’t have one yet, but I’ll have a farm, and a house, and my money from the government, and I was hoping to ask if I, perhaps-could court and wed Tony."
“Tony?” Howards gapes, as if he there’s no possible way he’s heard himself right. “You’d like to-Tony?”
“Yes, sir,” Steve says firmly, pulse notching higher when Howard shakes his head in wonder. “I’ll have the status and means to wed him happily, and I believe he’d be welcome to my advances if I was given leave to them.”
“Right,” Howard replies with a rapid blink, disarmed, “you may of course have as much of his time and attention you’d like, son. Your courtship is very well-welcomed."
Suddenly overcome with the need to see Tony at once, Steve wonders if it would perhaps be extremely rude for him to leave them right this moment to find him. Then again, he never did care for social etiquette.
“Thank you,” Steve hears himself answer as if from afar, setting his teacup down and slowly rising to leave, his chest ballooning infinitely as Maria smiles at him. “Thank you-I’m sure you won’t regret this.”
God, he wants to see Tony.

“How many times can you…?” Tony asked, gesturing vaguely downwards.
“How many times can I what?” Steve blinked, glanced down, and then, “Oh.” His eyes were very wide. “I… A few times.”
“How many,” Tony demanded.
This was new, this thing between them, and Tony had… specific tastes. If Steve was going to be put off by it, well, best to let him express it now, before Tony got too invested.
A voice laughed in the back of his head. ‘Before you got too invested? Bit late for that, isn't it? You poor, fucking idiot.’
Tony shoved the voice away.
He had a lot of practice shoving the voice away.
“I don't know,” Steve retorted, on the edge of sharpness, as if he was the one sporting an erection hard enough to hammer nails. “I haven't tested the outer limits of how many times I can come in one night, Tony.”
“Well, then. Let's find out.”

Summary
“Thank you. You're wonderful.” He says, and he means it. Tony looks away, hands drumming along the lab table nervously. Steve stares at his hands, and suddenly everything makes perfect sense. It's a nervous gesture so like Iron Man's that first day Steve woke up in this strange new world. An empty suit. Bruises with an explanation that just seems phoned in. Tony exhausted and aching but still working, funding the Avengers through his own pockets. Tony keeping untold secrets close, brown eyes wide and filled with something unspeakable in the hallway, leaning away from Steve's arms instead of into them. If it's true then Steve's in even more trouble than he already thought he was.
Dangerous does not even begin to describe Tony Stark. He thinks, even in his own mind he sounds resigned.
In which the world at large does not know Tony Stark is Iron Man, and Steve falls for him harder than a bag of bricks anyway.

If someone had told Steven Grant Rogers that one day he would fall for a mouthy super-genius, billionaire who flew an armored suit to fight evil-he might have had a few choice words for them. That doesn't change the fact that it's true. He can't really pinpoint the moment it all solidified for him. Maybe it was before they fractured and came back together, maybe it was while watching Tony punch a dinosaur while wearing obsidian armor-maybe it's always been there just waiting for him to show up looking like that, and talking like that, and smirking in that way of his that makes Steve's stomach swoop.
Tony is everything he's ever wanted, and everything he never knew he wanted all in one fascinating and sometimes infuriating package. He loves him, he wants him, and it all seems doomed because for all Tony flirts, he seems utterly unable to understand that when Steve flirts back it's in the utmost sincerity. Steve knows Tony is interested, he just can't seem to convince him that the interest is returned and then some.
