Chloe stands in a daze.
The only sensation able to reach her is the wound on her chest pulsing to the beat of her breaking heart.
While staring at the spot their daughter just disappeared from, she waits for the anger to come. The grief, the loss, the sadness. Anything.
It doesn’t.
She can feel it simmering, underneath a thick blanket of numbness. Within reach, but not quite. If she gives in, she knows there’s more to come. Guilt for feeling this way, for being in opposition to her daughter's demands.
“Is this what you want?” she asks him finally and then imagines him gone.
