George scrunches his nose, repressing a scoff. “I told you I’m being serious.”
The next thing George knows, there’s a warm palm flush to his cheek. A gentle slap – an exasperated move between friends, but something more where it lingers. It stings for a moment in reprimand but there’s no pain that resides, only the tips of fingers curling – thumb across his lashes, index below his ear.
George holds his breath.
“What makes you think I’m not?”
George struggles with his perception of love. Dream helps.

Summary
Love loosens the grip of depression on the soul.
That was something that had stuck with George since he overheard it in passing from a group at the library table next to him. Something about the phrase ingrained itself into his mind, and he wasn’t quite sure why.
Maybe because it was total bullshit.
Maybe because “love” never seemed to do much of anything but make him anxious and mad.

“Please come pick me up,” George whispers, cutting a gut-deep cry with a broken-hearted sound. He pleads. He begs. Because he wants Dream here, pressing his hipbone into the bed and bumping it into George’s until he ruins him with a bruise, the shape of a heart, the shape of his mouth.
Dream muffles a sound in his throat, holding himself back from a drive across state borders that would get him to George. “I know, sweetheart.”
He is strong for both of them tonight. And surely, that has to be enough.
A flight stuck in New York before Christmas calls for thoughts of doubt.

Dream braces his hand against the open shelf, taking a second to breathe and try and orient himself with the sniffling infant on his arm; it doesn’t work well, and he finds that focusing is hard and breathing is getting even harder. He’s overtired and confused, head aching in the early hour of the morning and making thinking ever so difficult.
He doesn’t know what to do.
Dream was told how hard the teething stage was and he really thought he was prepared for it but sometimes it gets a little too hard on his own. George always says that he doesn't mind coming over, and Dream just hopes that offer to stay would last a little longer than just a panicked phone call at two in the morning.

George chokes on his spit, angrily snapping his Sugar Quill in half. He looks mournfully at the two sugary halves before shoving one in his mouth, chewing it in exasperation. “I don’t have a crush.”
“Oh! We’re talking about Dream!” Sapnap leans against George, his legs neatly placed in Bad’s lap. “Yeah, you do dude. You literally went bright red at the end of the Quidditch match the other day,” Sapnap gleefully comments, snatching the other half of the broken Sugar Quill and popping it in his mouth.
“Stop it, I don’t have a crush on Dream!” George spits out loudly, watching as Techno and Wilbur look over curiously, chuckling at him before turning back to their game. George wants to Obliviate himself on the spot.
