Summary
“Goddamnit, LT!” Johnny exploded, stepping in front of Simon to cut him off. “Don't say you can protect me. Don’t give me that bullshit. They’re feeding me to the wolves. I know that in my fucking bones.”
His voice was shaking. His entire body was shaking. Simon said nothing.
Johnny whirled around and glared at the rest of their platoon. They were his brothers and sisters, the people he would have gone to war with, the people he’d take a bullet for. And among their placid, shocked, and silent faces, none of them could meet his eye.

Summary
In better times he would have taken it with sugar, but there was no sugar. Just the aroma of strong black tea was enough. Ghost closed his eyes as he inhaled the steam.
Even in the fawdha, the chaos, the two of them were always dancing around each other, in this way.
They were all hard men who had been raised by a harsh and unforgiving land. Unlike the occupying soldiers, whose skin burned in the sun; anyone in the 141 could run around in sandals all day and all night, in fear of nothing.

Summary
Soap rested his thumb under the point of Ghost’s jaw and felt where his pulse was racing.
“This is illegal,” Ghost whispered.
“So is the war,” Soap pointed out. “Depending on who you ask.” Slowly, he ran his hand around the back of Ghost’s head and tilted it down.
Fuck, he shouldn’t be doing this. Not with his superior officer, and certainly not in the middle of their deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, 2003.

Summary
“Don’t do your stupid lonesome shite,” Soap said disapprovingly. When Ghost went to protest, he rolled his eyes. “I want to go with you.”
When Ghost didn’t immediately respond, he faltered slightly. “If you’ll have me, that is,” he added in a smaller voice.
“‘Course I’ll have you,” Ghost said, instinctively refuting the idea that he might not want Soap around before realizing what, exactly, he’d just agreed to. He couldn’t bring himself to regret it, though, not with the blinding smile Soap gave him.

Summary
Laswell’s op order said no heavy weapons indicated. Then a missile tears 141’s bird out of the sky.
They hit the ground in pieces—Soap bleeding and concussed, Gaz on a bad knee, Price dragging them through a killbox, and Ghost alone on the flank, carving through hitters who move like black‑file operators, not cartel muscle. The route was wrong. The intel was thin.
Somebody set them up.

Summary
"Now I think he'll get himself killed trying to be decent," Ghost said quietly. "And I think he'll get me killed trying to save him when I don't need saving."
When Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson is assigned to Task Force 141, Simon Riley immediately clocks him as a liability. Roach is green, dangerously idealistic, and has a habit of treating combat like a rescue operation rather than a math problem. But as the missions stack up, Roach proves himself to be something entirely unexpected: reliable, hyper-competent, and entirely unbothered by the Ghost myth.

Summary
For the first time in years, Price manages to get leave for his entire team for the holidays. He knows, however, that so much time alone over Christmas is something like a death sentence for Simon. He decides to invite him to his cabin for the holidays instead, trauma be damned. Broken things deserve vacations, too.
