Summary
Set two months after the siege of the Last City once the survivors found refuge at the safe haven, untouched by the Flare and WCKD's grasp. Among them is Newt, who once nearly lost himself to infection. Haunted by the past, Newt struggles to rebuild a life he no longer feels he deserves. Thomas has taken on a leadership role, burdened by the pressure of it. Summary
(Thomas's hands are screwed up badly after a close call in the Maze. The bandages make everything difficult and frustrating, but at least he has Newt to lend a hand while his recover.)
"There something up with your hands, Tommy?" He asks it like a question, but he already knows the answer.
Thomas draws his still balled-up fists closer to himself without really meaning to. He doesn't say no, doesn't say anything.
"Can I see?" Newt steps a little closer as he speaks but stops short at the look on Thomas's face. Thomas doesn't know what he looks like in that moment, but he feels a bit like a frightened rabbit. He can't do this now. He just can't. He gives Newt a look. It's a clear no, and Newt doesn't push it.
"Alright then, Shank. Have it your way." Newt says, but his eyes survey Thomas's fists a moment longer.
