Summary
“Buck told you we were divorced?” Eddie practically spits out, his lips doing a weird thing as if he doesn't know if he should laugh, cry, or curse her out.
“No! Well— I kinda assumed? I mean— It was implicit?” She tries to defend herself. “I didn't mean to sleep with your husband! I swear! I would never— That's just not the kind of person I am, y’know?”
Eddie, for the first time since Jules’ met him five minutes ago, seems flustered and at a loss for words. Jules, like the coward she is, takes that as her cue to get the hell out of there, slamming the door behind her and just starting to walk until she's far away from that house.

He opens it and thinks maybe he never woke up at all. Maybe he's lost his mind.
“B- Bobby?” He chokes out, his heart dropping six feet under, while reckless, treacherous hope rises up his throat, sparks and flares in his insides.
Bobby doesn't seem even the slightest bit affected, though. He looks a little older, with a few more gray hairs and wrinkles around the eyes than Buck remembered… but he looks healthy, happy. Alive.
“Hey, kid.”

“So, I don't think Maddie mentioned what you do for work?”
“Oh, I'm a cop.” Buck says, hesitating just for a fraction of a millisecond. People have very different reactions to that revelation, depending on who they are, and Buck's prepared himself for pretty much every possible scenario.
“Oh,” Eddie says after a beat, voice neutral, impassive and cool. “Maddie didn't mention you were a cop.” His date sounds too put together— So effortless that you just know a great amount of effort has been put into sounding as natural and indifferent as Eddie has. Buck thinks and knows that Officer Grant would immediately be suspicious of it, and he tries to push the thought away. She can be a little paranoid.

Summary
The only thing Buck is aware of, aside from the ringing in his ears, is Eddie’s presence right next to him, so close that he can even feel Eddie’s body warmth through his clothes, their shoulders brushing every second that passes by as they both shake in their places.
It's the shock, Buck thinks. It must be. Because Eddie is holding his hand hard and tight, to the point of pain, as if Buck is his lifeline.
He can still feel the flames on his face, Eddie yelling desperately for him, pulling and pushing at Buck's stupid belt that refused to come off. He can still remember the way his life flashed right in front of his eyes, the feeling of imminent death clawing and twisting inside of him, tightening around his heart in a vicious grip that left him breathless and gasping.

“Sorry again, uh, Doctor Diaz.” He says and reaches a hand out to shake it with the man's. “I'm Buck. Evan Buckley, but everyone calls me Buck.”
“Eddie. And oh, I thought—” The doctor raises his eyebrows so high that they almost reach his hairline, gaze flicking to Maddie and then back to Buck. “Sorry. You must be the husband.”
“God, no!” “Gross.” Both Maddie and Buck say at the same time, making identical, disgusted faces.

Summary
He shakes his head, trying to clear the thought before it can settle. Eddie isn’t dead. He’s in Texas, doing what’s best for Christopher. And Buck—Buck has to get over whatever this is.
Swallowing hard, he moves to grab one of his own boxes, dragging it toward the hallway.
But then, out of the corner of his eye, he sees it.
A single, forgotten cardboard box in the far corner of the living room.
In big, black letters, written with marker, it reads: EDDIE — KEEP.
It’s not one of his. He is sure of that.
or:
Eddie leaves a very important box behind and Buck spirals. -

“Can I help you?” Eddie asks cautiously.
Christopher opens his mouth, but nothing comes out. His mind blanks. All the scenarios he imagined—the ways this might play out—scatter out like dust.
Finally, he manages, “This is gonna be hard to believe, specially for you, but— I'm Christopher. Your son. I, uh, come from the future?” His voice turns higher at the end of the sentence and it makes it sound more like a question than the fact he was trying to announce.
Eddie freezes.
“What?” His voice is sharp, disbelieving, and his posture gets more defensive. He can see a hint of anger simmering underneath. “Look, man, if this is some kind of sick joke—”
Christopher swallows hard, forcing himself to stand straighter. “Dad. It’s me.”

“Jee, what have you done?” Buck groans, trying to unsend the emails that are— used to be in his drafts.
The emails that he's written to Eddie and that were never supposed to see the light of day.
The emails Jee somehow managed to send while Buck wasn't looking.

“Don't.” Buck shuts him down quick and sharp, gaze darting and fixing on a point above Eddie's shoulder, as if looking him straight in the eye could actually kill him. "I know what you were going to say. Just— don't,” he says, setting his jaw determinedly.
“What was I going to say?”
Buck sighs and leans against the Jeep, tipping his head up and closing his eyes. “You still feel guilty. I can see it, Eds.”
The old nickname cuts like a knife through Eddie's chest, and when he hears it, he can't help to make a small, involuntarily wounded sound at the back of his throat. Buck doesn't seem to notice, or care for it.
“Don't do it, okay? You didn't ruin my life, you didn't—” Buck shakes his head and rubs a hand through his hair. “I made a decision years ago. That was all me, okay?”

“I'm just saying!” Chimney lifts his arms in peace offering. “I saw Eddie smile at his phone. And not a “My son is so adorable and I was just sent a picture of him” kind of smile. More like, “I'm in love” kind of smile.”
Daniel pauses, closes his locker slowly and then turns to look at Chimney with a frown etched between his eyebrows. “How would you even know?”
And Chimney, because he is the worst person in the world and his only purpose in life is to annoy Daniel, smirks and shrugs. “That's the smile I use for your sister.”
Daniel hates it here.
“Anyway,” Chimney waves it off. “I'm just curious about who Diaz could be dating. Aren't you?”
And Daniel isn't. He really couldn't care less… until he does.
or:
Daniel Buckley never thought that working at the 118 under the painful reign of Captain Gerrard would amount to anything good. He never, ever thought that it would lead him to his long lost brother. Or that his co-worker Eddie Diaz would beat him to the punch. But alas, here they are.

Summary
“Uh, hey.” The guy blinks slowly and he is holding a piece of paper in his hands, glancing down at it and then back up at Buck with something very similar to the panic Buck was just feeling in the bathroom. “I think you might be my husband?” The guy croaks out, voice hoarse from just waking up and strained, breaking on the last word.
Buck glances down, his gaze shooting to the man's left hand and— yup, an identical plastic ring is on his finger. When Buck takes a step closer, the guy angles the piece of paper to the side, enough that Buck can read it's apparently a marriage certificate. It's signed sloppily and messily and he thinks that's his signature but it's all wobbly and the ink falls to the side like his hand slipped at the last second.

Summary
Buck freezes, dead still, as his ears prick for more sound, trying to hear if Eddie's alone, watching porn, or God forbid, with someone else. The idea is almost ridiculous but possible all the same and Buck feels sick to his stomach just thinking about it.
Buck's moving before he can stop himself. He charges towards Eddie's bedroom, his heart thumping as he listens to Eddie's moans and groans and grunts getting louder.
He comes to a halt right in front of Eddie's door that's open. Not completely so, just a smidge, but enough to give him a good look at Eddie tangled in the sheets.
Buck watches in absolute awe as Eddie's duvet rises and falls as he touches himself, the movements quick and desperate.

But he can use the context clues; like Evan's extreme and irrational jealousy, or the way Christipher won't shut up about the man and how amazing he is and all the great and cool things they've done together or how Evan can cook way better than Eddie and Evan kills it at science projects.

And really, there's this universal truth: the gays can never have a normal fucking break-up.

“I know we just got engaged,” Tommy chuckles nervously and walks back to where Evan is standing, his hands grabbing the other side of their grocery cart. “And I don't want to pressure you, there's no rush. We can stay engaged for years, if you want to.”
If he's being honest, Tommy would rather do it sooner than later, but he can be patient for Evan.
“No, that's not—” Evan makes a small sound at the back of his throat, and then realization washes over him. “Oh God, wait, you were serious last night?”
“W-what do you mean if I was serious?” Tommy sputters, “Of course I was!”
And then, Evan laughs.
Like a full on belly laugh, a crackle that booms through the grocery store's aisles.
Tommy does not find it funny, nor amusing.

“The plane is sinking.” Eddie states, matter of factly, he blinks and his gaze clears just a little bit more. “And I'm going down with it.”
The water is now almost hitting Eddie’s chest. Everyone has evacuated already, he's pretty sure. And Buck feels like a tender bruise, achy and broken.
“If you go down, then I'll go down with you. I don't fucking care, Eddie!” Buck feels the sting of tears in his eyes, Eddie's hand moves slowly, his thumb brushing them away delicately and in their wake, leaving a trail of blood instead.
Buck can't bring himself to care.

“We could use the handcuffs I know you have in your drawer.” He blurts out, feeling the heat rush to his cheeks as he sees a playful, teasing smile tug at Tommy's lips and his eyebrows raise so high they almost touch his hairline.
“You've been snooping around? Trying to find any skeletons in my closet?” Tommy says it lightly, joking. His arm still secured over Buck's waist.
“No, shut up.” Buck hides his head against the guy's shoulder. “I saw them when I was looking for a hoodie a few weeks ago. Haven't been able to stop thinking about it, to be honest.”
“Yeah?” Buck feels the chuckle reverberate in Tommy's chest.
“Yeah.” He says, voice muffled against Tommy's skin.

“Where are we even going?” Tommy smiles, indulgent and patient and so fucking pretty that Buck wants to cry and fall down on his knees right then and there.
“To the supply closet at the end of the hallway.” Buck leans forward until his lips are just a few inches away from Tommy, whispering conspiratorially. “I happen to know the nurses and doctors always use that one for a quickie, so we probably won't get interrupted.”
“I have… so many questions.” Tommy blinks at him, the smile still not quite leaving his expression.
