    Summary

Over the course of fifteen years, there were over a dozen known assassination attempts on Kamyuhn and Sumino Takumi, leaders of the Futuran Rebellion forces. The assailants came from various factions, both Futuran and Human, that attempted to disrupt peace talks between the Futuran and Earth Force delegations.

However, all of their attempts failed.

Historians widely attribute the cease-fire and failed assassination attempts to the might of an opposing assassin within the Rebellion Force’s ranks…

    Summary

That won’t be a problem for Yusuke, as long as he continues sitting still. But it’s hard to truly paint someone without knowing a bit about them, so as Yusuke gives more of his attention to his sketchbook, he clears his throat.

“Why did you volunteer for this position, Yuki-san? If I may ask.”

“Hm?” Yuki’s dark blue eyes flit to Yusuke’s own, and then away. His pensive expression is also pretty, a bit mysterious. Yusuke attempts a quick sketch of it and finds that it looks a bit off, so tries again. “Well… I was approached on my way to a lecture, and the girl who spoke to me said I would be good at it.”

Yusuke continues sketching for about a minute before he realises Yuki has finished speaking. “That’s all?”

    “That’s all.” Yuki shrugs.

    ---

Yusuke finds himself fascinated by Yuki Makoto, the volunteer model for his latest art assignment.

    Summary

Makoto looks away from the textbook, turns his gaze to the rest of the lounge. Like the world at large, during the Dark Hour, everything takes on a slight green glow. Within the dorms, it’s slightly less eerie, just because of the presence of other living people. (As opposed to the coffins and the blood.) The green is still a little unsettling, though. It certainly paints the furniture in a different light. You know what they say about everything being scarier in the dark.

Although… maybe scary isn’t the word that Makoto would use for it. There was a time when he thinks he might have been—somewhere in that territory, perhaps. Back when he was young, when everything felt so much larger. (Makoto does try not to think too heavily on these days, but the thoughts do arise periodically, particularly in the quiet.) The coffins themselves are enough to frighten anyone, nevermind a kid who just saw a pair at a funeral. Who saw the bodies—though this, Makoto adamantly refuses to look back on, diverting to the safer topic of the Dark Hour itself and releasing a soft breath.

    ---

On a night when they don't venture into Tartarus, Makoto and Sanada are both awake during the Dark Hour.

    Summary

Essentially, this organisation has offered Yusuke a great sum of money in exchange for the creation of a piece of artwork. A no-strings-attached bit of support; again, a launch pad, as they’ve called themselves. The descriptor seems apt, though there are no parameters for Yusuke’s work, just that he has to complete it within the coming weeks and display it at one of their galleries, which will be taking place early next year. Yusuke could conceivably paint anything—could really repurpose an old piece of artwork, if he wanted to—and it isn’t as if he hasn’t had ideas since the opportunity arose, some that might even be useful to this purpose.

But for such a large amount of money—and such a special occasion, it wouldn’t be right to phone it in. Yusuke has battled with his inspiration and come out with the conclusion that not everything he paints needs to be an absolutely sincere masterpiece, but for this, he’d at least like it to mean something. Painting the tree outside his dorm room just doesn’t really cut it; he wants to paint something special.

    ---

In need of inspiration for a special piece, Yusuke spends a day at Leblanc painting. His friends all pop by to show their support.

    Summary

After a long moment, Yuki lets out an audible sigh. He straightens up with a jug of orange juice in his hand and hip checks the fridge shut. Shinjiro watches with very wide eyes as he turns back around, walking towards the counter. Shinjiro waits for Yuki to reach for a glass or something, but he doesn’t, merely setting down the juice and picking up the cereal box with a frown.

    Enough is enough.

“Oi,” Shinjiro coughs to announce his presence, stepping further into the kitchen. “Don’t—Don’t do that.”

Yuki jumps, turning to look at Shinjiro like he got caught with his hand down the cookie jar. His brows knit together, and it’s a look Shinjiro’s seen on Aki’s face a thousand times, Kirijou’s a little bit less: guilt. The man knows what he’s done.

“I’ll—I’m gonna make myself somethin’ to eat, you can help me,” Shinjiro decides, scrubbing a hand down his face. “Don’t… stoop that low, Yuki.”

    ---

After intervening to stop Yuki from committing a true crime against cereal eaters everywhere, Shinjiro teaches him how to make souffle pancakes.
