"Neuvillette knew, all at once, what he was about to do.
    “No.”
This time the word was torn out of him. He moved faster, water surging at his command as he crossed the flooded stone, Hydro gathering around him in bright, violent arcs.
    Wriothesley turned away.
He pivoted toward the oncoming swell instead, lifting one arm as cryo burst from him in a sharp, blinding flare. Ice surged upward, jagged and uneven, forming a barrier between the retreating vessel and the next violent rush of water. It held for all of half a second before the Primordial Sea slammed into it and sent cracks racing through the whole thing.
    Still, it bought time."

AKA - Neuvillette has always understood the language of water. So when the sea refuses him, he knows something is terribly wrong.
During the fall of Fontaine, the Duke descends into the depths to save those who cannot save themselves. No body is recovered. No trace remains.
What does the sea do with what it takes?
He tells himself it is only duty that drives him back to the Primordial Sea. Not grief. Not longing. Not the quiet, unbearable realization that what he lost was never just an ally.

‘It’ll hurt like hell if I take those stairs,’ one part of her claims.

‘But I can do many other things down here, like mess up March’s room and look through the Databank!’ The other chimes.

‘Dan Heng won’t be too happy though…’ The first part claims. Stelle blinks before giggling to herself.

“Dan Heng isn’t here to say anything… and I do what I want.”

    Summary

The bouquet is… modest. Which is to say: clumsy. A little wild, like it was plucked by someone who didn’t know what would match but wanted it all to mean something anyway. A riot of silvers and whites and blue-touched greens, the colors of the sea when it’s thinking of the sky. Some of the stems are uneven. The string binding them is just that—string, frayed and rough. There’s no ribbon. No note.

But the moment Neuvillette touches them, his throat tightens like the air is suddenly full of brine.

He doesn’t take them at first. He just stares. Then he looks up, as if expecting an explanation, as if he’s waiting for the punchline. But Wriothesley doesn’t give him one. He doesn’t give him anything but that half-shrug of a smile that Neuvillette is starting to learn means more than it lets on.

“For your office,” Wriothesley adds, like he’s offering a paperweight. Like it’s nothing. Like he didn’t just reach inside Neuvillette’s chest and place something warm and fragile on the altar of his ribs.

Or, Wriothesley keeps showing up with flowers and Neuvillette keeps keeping them.

"Neuvillette?" Clorinde calls out to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Talk to us."

"Well, I suppose my water just broke," Neuvillette says casually, mentally noting the time to write down later.

"Oh, okay well—wait, WHAT?!" Furina turns to him wide eyed and almost frantic as she looks around.

After an anxious and tumultuous 9 months, on March 30th, Sigewinne is born.
