Summary

He assumes the time for finding a mate and having pups has passed him by, and works to be content with that.
After spending half of his adolescence and all of his twenties in independent, self-taught research and raising his younger sister, alpha Wei Wuxian finally got the Jianghu to recognize his work re-discovering talismanry and array language. Unfortunately, the Sects aren't exactly thrilled with his surprise appearance, and are eager to get him either under their thumb or out of the way. When the strange and beautiful Lan Wangji offers to help him, he's not in a position to say no.Finding companionship and understanding in one another, the two begin a courtship that surprises everyone, but most of all themselves.

In Wei Ying's company, Lan Wangji's own spirit begins to grow restless and alive, and he starts to discover that he is starving too.

Wei Ying finds himself in an unknown house that feels familiar with his disciple, Mo Xuanyu. Neither of them can remember their lives, or why they're there, and someone (or something) is watching them.
To solve the mystery of their confinement, they must remember the prophecy about their generation: "The One Who Sees will find the One Who Is. And the One Who Is will rip apart the world." Their generation faces a lot. But they're sticking together to face it.

But if Wei Ying is to be believed, this is just part of being alive: sometimes, a home just isn't your home anymore.
And that can be a good thing. An adventure, even.

this version of Wangxian is stunningly dear as well as so real and so *them.* Lan Zhan is such a mix of surety and uncertainty, solidity and hidden vulnerability -- the perfect things for Wei Ying to bring out in him. And Wei Ying is as cute and inspiring as ever, but this time with a mullet and a Florida tan. The navigation of class difference and classism in a relationship is so well done, an aspect of Wangxian that is too often overlooked. And I've never loved Lan Qiren before?? Reading this piece feels like cuddling up in a warm blanket with tea and cookies after a hard day?? Also the prose itself is so beautiful. Have read it twice in a month and will be reading again soon enough I'm sure.

as alpha reader, I know how this one ends and AHHHH!!! this is a beautiful, emotional ride navigating some of the most important fraught relationships in the story (particularly JC+WWX; JL+WWX; and then those three as a family) -- takes on all the POV characters feel in character but also feeling real, and not always what you expected. And of course, we get to see WangXian come together in such a realistic and tender and imperfect and hot and just, THEM way <3 This fic is a big, heartfelt sigh after a hard but good conversation with some delicious romance and smut sprinkled in.
*On top of all that* there is enjoyable, well-written political and magical intrigue (including how modaoists discover black holes?!), and the author's takes on Nie Huaisang and another (surprise!) character are SO GOOD. You will cry, you will giggle, you will say "AWWW" very loudly while kicking your feet - you will feel like the inter-generational bullshit is healed.
