Summary
Shane hums and turns his head back away from him as he slowly tucks his thumbs under the elastic of his briefs and pushes them down until they fall around his ankles. He tries not to, but he does ultimately fold them and add them to the rest of his discarded clothes after he steps out of them.
He barely has time to turn around before large hands grip his waist and pull him onto the bed. He's under Ilya again within a second. Ilya's face, this time, is red—despite Russians never blushing—and the look in his eyes is nothing short of possessive. "That is real?" He asks. His voice rumbles in his chest, and Shane can feel it from here.
"Yes. I got it for you," Shane answers, pleased with the reaction he's gotten out of his boyfriend. "Do you like it?"

Shane knows he’s probably overstepping. They’re supposed to be having a good time at the cottage, relaxing. But it’s been on his mind, he feels it would explain some things about Ilya. “Like, would you say he was hard on you, too?”
Ilya squeezes his eyes closed. “I do not know,” he says stiffly, shrugging his shoulders again as if he could physically shake off his unease. Yes, Ilya thinks, of course his father was hard on him.

Summary
Shane really shouldn’t call. He tells himself Ilya won’t answer, because they don’t do this, because they haven’t talked since they last emotionally devastated each other. Ilya won’t answer. He wants him to, feels like he needs him to.
He decides to give it three rings. If Ilya doesn’t pick up, he’ll hang up. Deny he ever called him. Block him if he sends him a screenshot of the missed call notification.
Ilya answers, waits for Shane to say something before tentatively asking, “Hollander?”

"No m'not," Shane said, somehow pressing his face even more into Ilya's body. "All I ever did was play hockey. Now, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I hope we have a baby soon."
The car went quiet at that. When Shane looked up, Ilya was looking out the window, jaw set.
"S' something wrong?" Shane asked. He ran his fingertips along the warm skin of Ilya's forearm.
Ilya turned back to face him, expression softened. Whatever pensiveness had taken hold of him was gone.
"No. Everything is perfect."
After sixteen seasons of professional hockey, Shane Hollander retires from the NHL in the interest of starting a family with his loving husband. It's maybe a little earlier than he would've liked, but with his thirty-five year old knees beginning to protest, it makes sense.
He's happy. He and Ilya have been working towards this for nearly a decade.
He's also terrified, wondering if this is the biggest mistake of his life, and thinking that maybe he should take it all back. But mostly, he's happy.
