Summary
Eight years after the war, Harry is an auror, and he is a drunk. An ordinary stop at Malfoy Manor, to dismiss Draco from his probation, reveals a disturbing secret: Draco has obliviated himself, and he has no memory of who he is.
Harry becomes determined to fix him, and together they help untangle each other from trauma and grief.
“It was his birthday yesterday. I got him a pair of Gouldian finches – he was so excited. You know, he used to hate birds? The peacocks terrified him when he was small.” Narcissa sniffled and turned back to Harry. “Twenty-six years old … and he can’t be left alone for ten minutes.”
“What happened to him?”
Narcissa took a sip of her tea; she pursed her lips and blew on the cup’s steaming surface.
“Draco tried to obliviate himself, Harry – last year on Christmas.”
“He …” Harry’s mouth gaped. “What? Why?”

He flinched back, and looked down to find the skeletal head of doe-eyed Thestral following the path of his hand in an attempt to lick off the blood that coated his arm. Draco’s face crumpled, “I’m sorry Harry, there is no way back,” it was like a bell had been struck inside Harry’s head - all he could hear was ringing, “There’s no where to go back to,” Draco moaned, “He wasn’t just trying to travel in time - he was trying to obliterate his own,” Draco choked on his tears, “There’s nothing ahead of this to travel to yet Harry,” he let out a few more hiccuping tears before finally suppressing his noises of pain, “There is no going back,” he whispered.’
