Summary
All the hair on the back of Lan Wangji’s neck stands straight. He finds himself pressed between the trunk of the tree at his front, and Wei Wuxian at his back. Wei Wuxian has a firm grip on the wrist which carries Bichen, and on his left upper arm. It feels...proprietary. Suddenly, and entirely inappropriately, a very old, very shameful memory surfaces, of a long-ago dream from which he had woken sweaty and shaking. The place on his chest where the resentment pierced him begins to throb painfully. Wei Wuxian breathes heavily against his ear for half a moment longer, and Lan Wangji feels himself flush.

He kicks at Lan Huan’s shin as hard as he can, making the table rock when Lan Huan, either in a very lucky coincidence or else sensing Lan Zhan’s intentions, crosses his legs. Ignoring the way the table scoots across the kitchen floor, Lan Huan says with a chuckle, “Hell, Lan Zhan could do it.”

"I remember," A-Xu says. He sounds patient. He shouldn't, Wen Kexing thinks, sound patient. They've spent months here, months wrapped around each other, not having sex. Back in the before, they fucked all the time, grasping hungrily at each other. It was urgent, so urgent, it felt like a constant need was in Wen Kexing—like every moment not spent in A-Xu's bed was a moment wasted.
Enough grief can drown desire, sometimes. Sharpen it, others. Make it strange.
