Valentina had her vetted at the start, of course, so she knows Mel doesn't have friends. Doesn't have family she's in contact with, except for the occasional holiday. Doesn't even have a pet cat, because she's allergic. She knows Mel is completely and totally alone in her life. That's one of the reasons she's so good at her job and and why Valentina had decided to hire her in the first place.
So when they start the underlying part of their relationship that is technically unethical, Valentina knows she has nothing at all to worry about.
